LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party national president
Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday lambasted the ruling
BJP for “insulting” farmers by turning a blind eye to their demands to repeal the farm law.
Paying tributes to former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh on his 118th birth anniversary, which is also observed as the Farmers Day, on Wednesday, Akhilesh said it was an irony to see farmers on street protesting against laws which are being forced upon them on a day when the nation is supposed to celebrate and acknowledge their contribution towards the country and its economy.
“Tributes to Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary! Today, under the BJP regime, the country is witnessing a historical Farmers’ Day when the farmers are forced to struggle on the streets, instead of celebrating. The BJP should stop insulting the farmers because the farmer of the country is the pride of India,” Yadav tweeted in Hindi.
Addressing party workers after paying floral tributes to Chaudhary Charan Singh, Akhilesh said the ruling BJP is least concerned with the farmers. “They (BJP) want to feed the corporates at the cost of the farmers,” he said addressing partymen who had gathered to pay tributes to the late prime minister. On one hand the government is observing farmers day and on the other the farmers are being forced by the police not to join the stir.” Recalling the contributions of Chaudhary Charan Singh he said as finance minister at the Centre he had allocated 70% of the total budget to rural India. “SP is on the same page on this issue as our government in UP also set aside 75% of the budget to sector which benefited the farmers and rural populace,” he said.
