BJP wins Milkipur seat with record margin of 61,000 votes
Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday surpassed all previous electoral records in Milkipur assembly constituency by garnering an unprecedented victory margin of 61,710 votes against archrival Samajwadi Party.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), BJP's Chandrabhanu Paswan secured 1.46 lakh votes to defeat SP's Ajit Prasad, son of sitting SP MP from Ayodhya Awadhesh Prasad, who secured 84,687 votes.
With Paswan's triumph in Milkipur, BJP's tally in Vidhan Sabha has reached 258.
The seat was vacated by Awadhesh Prasad after he won the Lok Sabha election from Faizabad (Ayodhya) constituency last year defeating two-term BJP MP Lallu Singh. Milkipur assembly constituency was established in 1967.
The highest electoral victory margin was documented in 2012, when SP candidate Awadhesh Prasad secured 73,803 votes defeating BSP's Pavan Kumar with a substantial margin of 34,237 votes.
However, he lost the seat in 2017 when BJP's Baba Gorakhnath secured 86,960 votes to defeat Prasad by a margin of 28,276 votes.
Prasad regained the seat in 2022 elections securing 1,03,191 votes to defeat BJP's Baba Gorakhnath by a margin of 13,338 votes.
