Fantastic score: City registers jump in turnout in 4 of 5 seats

Lucknow: The city recorded its best-ever performance in the assembly elections on Wednesday.
A heartening aspect of the voting was a jump in the turnout in four out of five urban seats, which have been known for low polling. The biggest jump was seen in Lucknow Cantonment where UP’s law minister Brajesh Pathak is in fray. From 50.77% in 2017, the constituency saw a turnout of 53.57% this time.
Similarly, Lucknow Central saw 2.88 percentage point rise in voter turnout. The constituency registered 56.02% against 53.14% in 2017. Lucknow East recorded 55.26 % against 53.62% in 2017 and Muslim-dominated Lucknow West registered 58.21 % against 56.12% in 2017.
The only seat which saw a slump in the turnout was Lucknow North. The constituency saw 55.50% registered voters reaching the polling station against 56.71% in 2017. Among the four rural seats, barring Malihabad, the other three -- Sarojini Nagar, Mohanlalganj and Bakshi Ka Talab registered an increase in the turnout since 2017 assembly polls.
While in Malihabad, 66.10% came out to vote against 66.82 % in 2017, Sarojini Nagar broke a 25-year old record and registered 60.10 % polling. A higher turnout of 62.47% had been registered in 1993. Similarly, Bakshi-Ka-Talab registered 69% voter turnout against 66.78% in 2017 and Mohalalganj constituency which has never been won by BJP registered 67.48% turnout this time against 65.20% in 2017.
