LUCKNOW: For more than 10 lakh residents of Rajajipuram, it is a constant struggle to commute on broken and potholed roads. Though most colony roads got repaired in the recent past through state government’s infrastructure and Samagra Vikas funds, several patches got eroded with time due to inferior quality of construction.
In C block of Rajajipuram, a 300 metre road of Para Underpass was constructed barley 15 days ago.
But the road has started withering off due to use of substandard construction material. Every day, two-wheeler riders are facing bumpy ride here. Since underpass connects Alamnagar to C block of Rajajipuram, it is very important for the locals.
A big problem in the colony is severely dilapidated main road of Alamnagar Station in F Block. The road runs close to Talkatora Police Station and has CMS and the biggest Eidgah of Alamnagar. The road has not been repaired for last 17- years after Housing Board handed it over to LMC.
The corporator, Shiv Sawariya said, "We have requested the municipal commissioner and mayor many times to repair the road as people often get hurt while commuting on it but no agency has come forward to rebuild it. Bikes often bump into craters and rickshaws get disbalanced on this road leading to severe injuries to riders."
The main road of E block market is still under construction and a fresh layer of concrete was recently applied but even before the road could get completed, it has started showing signs of damage. The temporary coating of concrete has started uprooting posing difficulties to the commuters. "The caved in road patches often lead to severe logging during rains causing inconvenience to us. Road are of such inferior quality that they cannot last for even one season", said Sachin Kashyap, a resident.
Municipal Commissioner, Udai Raj Singh said, "We will start inspecting the quality of construction of newly built roads in all the wards from Monday. A special team will be formed to look into the issues and ensure timely solution. We have received the complaint from Rajajipuram residents and we will be inspecting the road on Monday." He added if the roads are found in dilapidated condition, necessary action will be taken against the contractor.
