LUCKNOW: Digging soft mud to plaster their kuchcha houses as preparation for Diwali proved fatal for two minor girls who were burried alive when a wall of the ditch from where they were collecting the mud, caved in. Three other minors were trapped under the mud but rescued in the nick of time.
The incident took place in Gossainganj police circle on the outskirts of the state capital on Friday morning.

The incident took place on the banks of river Gomati passing from the outksirts of Fatehpur village in Gossainganj around 11.30 am.
Kushboo (8) and her two sisters Poonam (7) and Sheelam (14) - daughters of Shivbaran had gone to collect mud along with Archana (6) - daughter of their neighbour Maniram and Ram Lalli (12) daughter of Ram Naresh. All the five had dug mud deep enough to reach to soft clay which was needed to plaster their kuchcha houses to give it a tidy look.
They were collecting clay when suddenly a wall of the ditch caved in and all were burried alive. An onlooker, who witnessed the incident, raised an alarm and villagers rushed to the site to rescue the minors.
Within the next half an hour all the five were rescued and rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Gossainganj where Khushboo and Archana were pronouned dead upon arrival. The remaining three were referred to the Balrampur Hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
