Lucknow: Initiating an aggressive start to the 2027 assembly election cycle, UP BJP unit has launched an exhaustive organisational audit by deploying ‘Pravasi karkyakartas’ (experienced party leaders and volunteers from other states, districts, and booths) across 1,918 mandals to verify the functioning of booth-level committees — the frontline units of party’s electoral machinery.
Party sources said UP BJP president
Pankaj Chaudhary and state general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh have told functionaries to ensure that every booth committee does not merely remain on paper and instead remains active and well represented socially.
The UP unit has taken cue from Bengal where the party’s historic win was largely attributed to a well-oiled booth management and an intense outreach across various sections.
Sources said the party plans to activate its ground machinery ahead of the state unit’s organisational rejig. A senior BJP member said the state unit effected changes at the booth level soon after Chaudhary became the UP BJP chief in Dec 2025. Sources said the party plans to deploy at least 60-70% of experienced organisational functionaries at the state and booth levels.
The initiative also follows the expansion of the Yogi cabinet, which focussed on reclaiming OBC and Dalit support to counter the opposition’s PDA plank, which had reduced the BJP tally from 62 to 33 in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Sources said the key aims of enhanced focus at the booth level is to mitigate vulnerabilities, capture the mood of voters, and assess the social dynamics.
A senior UP BJP functionary said the party plans to classify the constituencies into three types – one, where it never won; two, where the margin of win/loss was less; and three, where the party has been winning since 2017. Sources said the party has identified a little over 60 ‘high risk’ assembly seats, which it has not won since 2017.
Sources said the recently conducted Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls was also central to the booth-level exercise. So, workers have been asked to physically confirm the status of ASD (Absentee, Shifted and Deceased) voters.
