Order on Bains bail on Thursday
LUDHIANA: Bail application of Simarjeet Singh Bains, the accused in a case of attack on sub-registrar Gurinder Singh Benipal would be decided on Thursday. The case was reserved for order on Thursday after listening to the arguments of both the parties on Wednesday.
Advocate for Bains, Bikramjeet Singh Sidhu argued before the court of ACJM Jatinderpal Singh Vehiniwal that the injury to the victim was not with an intention to kill and was not dangerous to his life as well and therefore the Section 307 of IPC was not applicable.
1x1 polls
He argued that the case was more of political vendetta to settle scores with the accused.
He alleged that there was a delay of almost seven hours in the registration of the case despite the fact that police was there on the spot. He alleged that the police had worked with malafide intentions only to falsely implicate his client. He argued that the additional statement made by Gurinder Singh Benipal highlighted as to how the police acted in the case.
The public prosecutor, however, stuck to his simple points that the accused had not only attacked the victim with a murderous attempt but had also interrupted a public servant while doing his duties. He denied the charges that it was matter of settling political scores as the accused himself was a member and councillor of the ruling party.
However, after listening to the arguments, ACJM kept the case for pronouncing orders on Thursday, directing both the parties to be present in the court for the same.
Flanked by supporters
Gurinder Singh Benipal came to the court along with other sub-registrars and officials of the district administration. Supporters of Bains were also spotted standing inside and outside the court room to show their support and strength.
