LUDHIANA: Whereas the police is yet to initiate action in the case, wherein former chief parliamentary secretary Malkiat Singh Birmi and district Congress committee (DCC) president Jagmohan Sharma allegedly clashed with each other, both the leaders are levelling allegations and counter-allegations, saying the attack was a 'planned move' by the other party.
Talking on the issue, SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill, said, "We are yet to record the statement of the victim, Manpreet Laddi, as his health does not allow him to do so.
We will register an FIR only after recording his statement, he added.
Meanwhile, Malkiat Singh Birmi held at a press conference here on Sunday.
Speaking to mediapersons, Birmi alleged that the entire incident was 'pre-planned' and it was Jagmohan Sharma and his supporters, who had tried to storm the function at Perfect Palace.
He further alleged that the Jagmohan Sharma was treating the district Congress committee as his private company by throwing all rules and norms to the winds.
Birmi said, "All five MLAs and block presidents have demanded the removal of Jagmohan Sharma from the post and an action is awaited against him by the party cadre. The leaders are also dissatisfied with his style of working."
Meanwhile, police personnel reached the hospital at around 4 pm on Sunday to take Laddi's statement.
However, the victim was not in a condition to give his statement.
However, another victim, Sameer Sharma, stated to the police that he had been attacked by Malkit Singh Birmi.
According to Sharmas version, trouble started when Birmi entered Perfect Palace and got annoyed due to the presence of a large number of supporters of Jagmohan Sharma.
He said, "I can identify Birmi, Sanjay Sharma, Ravi and some people who attacked me, Laddi and others."
"Had we planned the attack as Birmi is alleging, our supporters would not have been injured. Rather, Birmi's supporters would have been hurt," he added.
Now, with both the party leaders indulging in a blame game of sorts, the truth will be revealed only after the
police records the statement of the victim, Manpreet Laddi.
However, the police could not record Laddis statement due to his medical condition.
