Dindigul Congress seeks disqualification of councillor
ClearedMadurai: The Dindigul District Congress Committee has sought the disqualification of a councillor of the Dindigul Corporation after he joined DMK earlier this month.In a representation submitted to Dindigul corporation commissioner on May 18, district Congress committee president Durai Manikandan said ward 21 councillor J Karthik had contested the 2022 corporation election as an authorised Congress candidate on the party's hand symbol and won the seat.The letter stated that Karthik joined DMK on May 6. It further said that Karthik had sent a letter to the Congress leadership on Oct 8, 2024, through post on his letterhead seeking to relieve himself from the party post he held and from primary membership.Citing provisions under the Tenth Schedule dealing with anti-defection and local body election rules, the Congress asked the commissioner to initiate action to disqualify Karthik from the councillor post.The party said copies of the letter sent by Karthik to the leadership, photographs relating to his induction into DMK and newspaper reports on the development had been enclosed along with the representation.
