HC disposes of plea on Avaniyapuram jallikattu organising committee

Madurai: The Madras high court on Thursday disposed of a plea which sought to constitute an organising committee with representatives from all communities for the jallikattu event to be held at Avaniyapuram in Madurai district. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by M Muniyasamy, assistant district organiser of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi at Madurai.The petitioner stated that the jallikattu event at Avaniyapuram is to be held on January 14. Since the petitioner is also an interested person, the judges disposed of the petition by directing the authorities to include him as a representative in the committee. tnn
