Dindigul: The body of a 25-year-old man was found in a pile of M sand near a private stone quarry near Paraipatti in Dindigul district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Karuppusamy of Saralaipatti.
Police sources said that on Sunday at around 11.30am, a man who was working as an excavator operator at the quarry found a decomposed body when he was excavating the pile of M sand.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was a mentally ill person, and used to visit the quarry occasionally to take rest. He was found missing a few days back, but the family didn't file a missing complaint with police, as he used to go missing occasionally and returned home.
Police stated that sand might have fallen on him while he was resting; as a result, he may have lost his life.
The family of the deceased also demanded the closure of the quarry and requested to conduct a detailed investigation.
Police recovered the body, and sent it to Dindigul govt hospital for autopsy. Natham police are investigating.
Former BJP state president K Annamalai in a post on X claimed, "This quarry is said to be connected to Palaniyandi, the MLA of the Srirangam constituency."
He urged the police to carry out a complete investigation into the quarry management and the political connections behind it.
"The Tamil Nadu govt must order a comprehensive inquiry into whether the young man, whose lifeless body was discovered at the Saralaipatti stone quarry, was murdered—and whether any other conspiracies lie behind the incident," said PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss in his X post.
