MADURAI: The Madras high court has directed the principal secretary of school education department, its director and chief educational officer to file affidavits as to why they barred the Trichy district educational officer (DEO) from complying with an earlier order of the court.
In July 2021, a single judge had directed the DEO to disburse grant-in-aid towards salary of petitioner Geevarghese Mathew, who was a postgraduate assistant (zoology) in a minority school.
The court was apprised that the DEO could issue the salary orders only after getting permission of the three officers of the school department.
The judges directed the DEO to pass a revised order before the next hearing on April 18, failing which she could be punished.
