Udupi: A 12-year-old boy, Abdul Rehman, was killed after being hit by a car while crossing the road near Jyothinagar in Nejar village of Udupi taluk Friday.
According to a complaint by Musarrath, 45, of Adarsh Nagar, Nejar, she was returning home on a scooter with her daughter Sara and younger son Rehman after visiting a school to collect books.
Around 12.45pm, near a mosque at Jyothinagar in Mooduthonse village, Rehman got down from the scooter and crossed the road. As he reached the other end of the road, a car coming from the Santhekatte side towards Kemmannu allegedly hit him. The car was allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner, the complaint said.
The impact threw the boy onto the road, causing bleeding injuries to the back of his head and right leg. He was taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared him ‘dead on arrival’.
A case has been registered at Malpe police station.
