21-year-old 'guru' in soup for cheating

CHITRADURGA: A 21-year-old man, who made it a habit to con people of their money by claiming to be possessed the goddess, has finally landed in police net.
Renukacharya was nabbed after Radha from whom the former had taken Rs 10,000, by promising to solve her problems by invoking Horanadu Annapoorneswariamma lodged a cheating complaint with police.
According to police, in response to an advertisement in a Kannada daily and advice given by the 'guru' over cellphone, Radha remitted the money to the bank account suggested by him.
When she contacted him again, Renukacharya denied that he had received money from her. When she realized the true colours of the 'guru', Radha approached the Chitradurga police on May 21.
The accused, who was taken into custody from Bangalore, has been remanded to judicial custody.
