Karnataka horror: Woman stabbed by neighbour in Brahmavar; family opposed marriage

UDUPI: A 24-year-old woman was stabbed by her neighbour, allegedly for refusing to marry him, at Kokkarne in Brahmavar on Friday.The victim, identified as Rakshitha, a resident of Chegributtu in Kokkarne, was attacked by her neighbour on her birthday at around 8.30 am.Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said her condition is critical and she is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Manipal. She sustained stab wounds to the neck and to both sides of the chest near the ribs.Rakshitha, who works as a contract employee in the survey department, was attacked while walking to the bus stand. Police suspect that objections raised by her family to her marrying the accused may have led to the incident.According to police, she had blocked the accused’s number two weeks ago after her family opposed the proposal. The SP confirmed that the main suspect in the case is Karthik Poojary.
