Govind Belgaumkar, convener, said an interesting facet of this event is this that coastal city is hosting such an event for the first time in Karnataka, after Tripura and Kolkata.
`Charulatha' is a Bengali film directed by Satyajit Ray in 1964, based on Nastaneer (The Broken Nest, 1901) and is set in 1879, when the renaissance in Bengal was at its peak. Kabuliwala in Hindi, a Bimal Roy film directed by Hemen Gupta in 1961, is the story of an Afghani Pathan Abdul Rehman Khan, who tries to see Amina (his daughter) in another little girl Mini, whom he meets while selling dry fruits on the streets. A Satyajit Ray classic, `Ghare Baire' is a Bengali offering of 1984 and deals with platonic relationship of Bimala, an educated woman, who befriends Sandip, leader of an economic rebellion.
Ivan D'Silva, convener, Sahamatha Film Society said one among the collection of three stories -- Postmaster, Monihara and Samapti-- which forms part of `Teen Kanya', a 1961 Bengali film may be dropped owing to time constraints of the event.
