Meerut: Police in Bulandshahr’s Kakod area have registered a case against eight people, including notorious criminal Amit Dhanaura, in connection with a firing incident allegedly linked to a decades-old family rivalry.The complainant alleged that Dhanaura, who is currently in jail, orchestrated the attack by sending shooters to target the family.The incident took place on Thursday when Jitendra alias Jeetu, son of farmer Dharampal, was travelling in his car. Police said bike-borne assailants opened indiscriminate fire at the vehicle, allegedly firing seven to eight rounds. Jeetu escaped unhurt after taking cover inside the car and allegedly retaliated in self-defence by firing two rounds.Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the feud between Amit and Dharampal’s family has continued for nearly three decades and claimed more than 40 lives. At least 22 people, including Dhanaura, have been sentenced to life imprisonment in cases linked to the rivalry.Bulandshahr city SP Abhishek Pratap Ajay said, “We received information about the firing, but no one was injured. Two people were involved in attacking the vehicle. Teams have been formed and CCTV footage is being examined. So far, it has come to light that the attack was the result of an old rivalry in the region.”
