Mumbai: Two masked men barged into a house in Kandivli West, bound a homemaker, and fled with five tolas of gold ornaments. Police suspect the culprits could be residents of the same building as they were not captured on camera leaving the premises.
The incident took place at a slum rehab building in Bhabrekar Nagar on Thursday. Two masked men barged into a house at 7.45am. Police said there is no clarity on how they gained access to the house as there are no signs of forced entry on the door. The victim was busy with household chores inside while her young son was asleep.
The robbers used her dupatta to tie her hands behind her back. They threatened her with a blade and robbed gold ornaments worth Rs 3.6 lakh before fleeing. The victim then raised an alarm that woke up her son. She sent him to their neighbour for help. A woman from the neighbouring home rushed to her rescue, following which the police were summoned. Officials said her husband lives separately.
"The victim lives on the first floor of the building, while cameras are installed on the ground floor near the staircase. We examined the footage for one hour before the crime as well as one hour after the crime.
Nobody can be seen leaving the premises. We suspect the culprit could be someone living in the building," said a police officer.
Charkop police are in the process of registering an FIR. The building does not have a watchman, said officers. Police are in the process of recording the victim's statement. She told officials that a milk delivery man had visited her house before the crime, but she had carefully latched the door shut after collecting the milk packet.
Charkop police have formed four teams to solve the case.
