'Made by Women' film festival

MUMBAI: In an endeavour to salute the talent, spirit and drive of Indian women in cinema, the first international festival of films by women directors would be held here from March 5.

<div class="section1"><div class="Normal">MUMBAI: In an endeavour to salute the talent, spirit and drive of Indian women in cinema, the first international festival of films by women directors would be held here from March 5. <br /><br />The five-day festival-- ''Made by Women''-- would be inaugurated by reputed director, Aparna Sen at Y B Chavan auditorium, according to sources at Point of View, a non-profit organisation and one of the organisers of the film festival.<br /><br />The festival, also commemorating the Women''s Day on March 8, would showcase the works of five women directors from Iran, Australia, Argentina, Czech Republic and India, including three international award winning film-makers.<br /><br />The festival would also pay tribute to the first woman film-maker ever -- French Producer-director Alice Guy, who made films in 1896 -- a century ago, it said.<br /><br />The films to be featured at the festival include <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">The Apple </span>by Samira Makhmalbaf (Iran), <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Daisies </span>by Vera Chytilova (Czech Republic) <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Sweetie </span>by Jane Campion from New Zealand, <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">La Cienaga--The Swamp </span>by Lucrecia Martel from Argentina and the landmark film <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">36 Chowringee Lane </span>by Indian director, Aparna Sen.

<br /><br />The festival is scheduled to travel to seven big cities in March-April including Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Trivandrum and Bangalore, where it would conclude on April 23, the sources said.</div> </div>
