Man held for torturing kids

MUMBAI: A 42-year-old man, who used to physically torture his two children regularly, was arrested by the Borivli police on Tuesday. Horror dad, Samiullah Shaikh, was booked under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, besides the IPC. Shaikh worked as a manual labourer and lived at Gorai in a slum colony.
Shaikh has two children, Nasreen (8) and Arif (6).After the kids' mother died a few years ago, Shaikh remarried. "Shaikh would not send the kids to school. He forced them to do all the house work. He would also beat them with a bamboo stick. At times, he would brand them with a hot iron," a police official said.
Shyamal Mhaske, who works with an NGO for child welfare, was tipped off about Nasreen and Arif's condition. Mhaske then alerted the police and a team of cops raided Shaikh's house. After questioning the kids, Shaikh was arrested.
