MUMBAI: Two days after two zari workers were crushed to death after a cement concrete slab from an underconstruction highrise on E Moses Road fell on them, Worli police on Thursday arrested the contractor and two workers for allegedly causing death by negligence.
The accused - contractor Iqbal Siddiqui (48), and helpers Gulab Husain and Jalal Siddiqui - were produced before a local court which sent them to judicial custody.
"The workers were drilling on the top floor and the concrete slab fell from there," said a police officer, adding that no safety measures were taken by them .
On Tuesday night, Sabir Ali Mirza (37) and Imran Khan (29), who worked at an export company, were at a tea stall when the slab came crashing down on them from the 42nd floor of Four Seasons Residency, near Four Seasons Hotel, in Worli. The slab also damaged a tourist car and a taxi.
On Wednesday, Worli police booked the builder, contractor, and supervisor among others under the India Penal Code Section 304A for causing death by negligence.
