MUMBAI: The city crime branch on Thursday arrested a 47-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a 58-year-old engineer who later died during the treatment. Police said that in April, members of a housing society in Parel village had beaten up the victim after allegations of Pocso against him. The deceased, an engineer by profession who worked in Navi Mumbai, resided in another wing of the same residential society. A case was registered against him under Pocso.
The engineer was admitted to KEM Hospital for treatment. His son approached the RAK Marg police and lodged a case under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC against over half a dozen people for assaulting his father. Police said that more than a week after he was admitted to hospital, the engineer died. The case was converted into a murder case.
The RAK Marg police had arrested five accused for assaulting the victim. They are currently in jail. The deceased’s son approached a court. The court then asked the crime branch to probe the case. “We have made the arrest in the case two days ago and are searching for a few more accused who are wanted in the murder case,” said a crime branch officer.
A team led by DCP Datta Nalawade and senior inspector Indrajeet More of the crime branch is probing the case.
