MUMBAI: Over 40% of the total 1,600 students who registered for campus placements at IIT-Bombay have already got jobs in the first five days.
More than 700 students on the campus have a job around 12 days before the first phase of campus placements is over. The figure also includes nearly 100 students who managed a job through the pre-placement route.
Last year a similar number of offers were made by the end of five days, including the pre-placement offers.
About one-third of the total jobs bagged this placement season were from the core sector firms. Less than 50 offers were made by start-ups which visited the campus till now. Though
Facebook and Google did not visit the campus this year (for international profiles), the usual biggies to offer the coveted $100,000+ incentives package included Visa, Microsoft and Oracle. A job-hunt portal, Indeed, which offered a similar package, did not pick any students as those shortlisted already had a job in hand.
Placement manager Atul Shukla said, “There are 12 days left for the first phase to get over. There are many companies that are on the waitlist in the coming days.” Talking about the choice of companies students made this year, Shukla said there have been cases where students have chosen a core firm offer over higher paying ones.
A few companies from Chennai could not manage to come for campus interviews after the city was hit by incessant rains. A couple of these, which could not make it, tried to conduct a few interviews on Skype. However, it is not known if those firms managed to shortlist any candidate.
