MUMBAI: State government on Wednesday told Bombay High Court that the principals and trustees will be responsible for complying with a panel’s recommendation to reduce the weight of school bags.
A bench of Justice V M Kanade and Justice Revati Mohite-Dere were informed by the government’s advocate Anjali Helekar that the government has issued a circular on November 5 directing that schools must implement the recommendations by the month end.
The court is hearing a public interest litigation by Swati Patil on the adverse effect of heavy bags carried by school children. When the Patil’s advocate Nitesh Nevshe complained that there are loopholes in the circular, the bench said it will hear him on Thursday.
