MUMBAI: An eight-year-old boy suffered an epileptic fit in school on Friday and was rushed to a hospital where he died. The Samta Nagar Police have recorded an accidental death case. A post-mortem examination will reveal the exact cause of death.
Shivansh Jha was a class III student of Nirmala school in Kandivali East. He lived in Kandivali with his parents.
Around 3 pm on Friday, his class had a PT period. The students were taken downstairs where they played hop. Mats had been laid out on the ground for them to play. CCTVs installed on the premises captured Jha suffering an epileptic fit and collapsing.
School staff informed his family and rushed him to Shreeji Hospital nearby. The hospital told his family that he was in a critical condition. The child was moved to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital at Kandivali where he was pronounced dead.
Doctors will make inquiries with his parents as to whether he had any previous illnesses. Police said his parents' statements will be recorded. "We have gone through surveillance camera footage and confirmed there was no foul play involved," said a senior officer.
