MUMBAI: A special
NIA court on Friday remanded Arif Abubakar Shaikh alias Arif Bhaijan (59) and his brother Shabbir Abubakar Shaikh (51) to judicial custody. The NIA had alleged that fugitive gangster Chhota Shakeel, aide of Dawood Ibrahim also known as D-gang, sent huge money to incite terrorism and target prominent politicians in India.
The arrested accused are alleged to be close associates and relatives of Chhota Shakeel, who operates an international criminal syndicate from Pakistan and is involved in extortions, narcotics smuggling and violent terrorist activities in India.
The duo were arrested last week and remanded to NIA custody till Friday. The NIA didn’t seek an extension of their custody and urged the court to send them to judicial custody.
In 2016, Mumbai police had arrested Arif Bhaijan along with three aides, including one Tabbasum Shaikh who was held in an extortion case.
