Mysuru police launch counters for discounted traffic fine payment

Mysuru: Mysuru city and district police have been directed to open counters, including at Mysuru Law Courts and taluk courts, to facilitate traffic rule violators to pay the discounted fine amount pending against their vehicles from June 21 to July 7.

A 50% concession has been granted on traffic fines for violations registered in the police department before May 2026 and on cases registered from 1991 to 2022 in the transport department.

Principal district and sessions judge Usha Rani, who is also District Legal Services Authority Chairperson, on Monday held a meeting with Mysuru district and city police officers and enquired about the arrangements made by them to collect traffic fines.

The chairperson said in Mysuru city police jurisdiction alone, about 1.04 crore traffic offence cases are pending, with a total fine amount of Rs 458 crore pending, and in the Mysuru district, about 36 lakh cases remain, with fines amounting to Rs 184 crore pending. Overall, in the district, 1.41 crore cases with fines amounting to Rs 642 crore remain pending. The chairperson also suggested opening counters in court campuses to receive traffic fines.

Superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi informed that in 2025, about Rs 43 lakh in fines was collected, and this time, measures will be taken up to inform the public through beat police constables and social media to collect more fines.

Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Sundar Raj stated that measures will be taken to collect fines in 18 police stations and 5 traffic police stations in the city, and additional booths and staff will be deployed if necessary.
