MYSORE: Mysore may be peaceful compared to the war-torn Afghanistan, but Afghan students in the city miss every bit of their mothreland.
Having made Mysore their choice for higher education, the Afghan students of St Philomena's College have bonded well, though far from their homeland.
"We miss our country and since we all belong to the same province, it's fun to discuss small details about our place.
I mostly remember the spring time and that is what I miss the most," Ramazan Ali Bahrami says.
Sitting on rock benches on sunny afternoons, they get nostalgic. "It's just that we love being together, hanging out at the same place and sharing many things," says Ghulam Sakhi Danish. "We come here after the class, though we are not so desperate to hit the place, but we do come for an hour or so to refresh ourselves for the next class," says Esmatullah Mutahar.
The discussions range from many topics-- some mundane, others serious like academics. "We also talk about our future and marriage," he says. "We have been to different places like Bangalore, Pune and Goa but Mysore is pleasant and quiet," says Rahmatullah Mutahar. Incidentally, they knew each other before coming to the college and the bond cemented in the foreign land.
The guys are little shy, but they do not hesitate when it comes to describing the beauty of their province Ghazni. The bench is perhaps a memoir of all the incidents that they have shared and valued.
