India Post honours Nagpur’s heritage with spl postcards

Nagpur: Department of posts released three special picture postcards and held an event at the Central Museum on Monday. On International Museum Day, the initiative aimed to highlight the preservation of regional cultural heritage.The newly released postcards feature notable artefacts in the museum. The first showcases Niranjani, a painting by 20th-century Indian artist Sawlaram Laxman Haldankar, an alumnus of Sir JJ School of Art. The second postcard features an 18th-century Double Pistol Dagger (pistol Katyar), a rare Indian weapon combining punch-dagger design with twin firearm barrels. The event was also themed around this artefact. The third postcard depicts a painting of ‘Ajab Bangla', the structure that is now housed at Central Museum.According to postal officials, the release generated significant interest among heritage enthusiasts, with orders being placed from various parts of the country via e-money orders. The picture postcards, intended to document and publicise the architectural and cultural history of Nagpur, are currently available for public purchase at Nagpur General Post Office (GPO). The event was attended by many officials including Sudhir Jakhere (DPS Nagpur region), Prasunna Reddy (SSP Nagpur city division), Mayuresh Khadake (curator, Central Museum), and Vedant Pathak (CM Fellow).
