NAGPUR: Joint commissioner of police, Rajvardhan, has denied issuing any red alert message urging citizens against venturing out of home between July 29 and 31 when 1993 bomb blast convict Yakub Memon would be executed at Nagpur central jail. The top official has warned that such rumour mongering is liable for action.
A message had started doing the rounds in social media, claiming that Nagpur police had issued the alert.
The message also asks the citizens not to touch any unclaimed baggage and remain away from strangers. The message has also made an appeal to the citizens to alert police at the earliest in case of any untoward incident or information.
Rajvardhan said that police would try to find out who are spreading such messages that may trigger panic. “Police have not decided anything yet on any security requirement of the execution,” he said.
It has been learnt that intelligence agencies have started studying the situation on the ground to gauge whether Yakub Memon’s possible hanging on July 30 would evoke any reaction in sensitive pockets of the city.
