Nashik: The
Congress is planning to hold a tribals' melava (meet) in Igatpuri ahead of the state assembly polls. Congress district president Shirish Kotwal said that the date of the meet will be decided in a day or two.
Congress in-charge for
Maharashtra, Remesh Chennithala is expected to address the melava. The party has already held interviews with over 13 aspiring candidates for the Igatpuri assembly seat. The sitting MLA from Igatpuri, Hiraman Khoskar, is unlikely to get the party's ticket this time as he is one of the seven MLAs under the party's scanner for allegedly cross-voting during the MLC polls in July this year. Khoskar appeared for a recent interview for the upcoming polls from the constituency, but he is yet to get assurance from the party. He also met the NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, urging him to convince Congress leaders to give him a ticket for the seat.
When asked, Shirish Kotwal said that there are over a dozen candidates who are willing to contest the Igatpuri seat. However, winnability will be the major factor for the candidate.
