Newly constructed road near Mumbai Naka still closed for traffic
Nashik: The newly constructed stretch of road beneath the Nashik flyover at the Mumbai Naka junction has not been opened for vehicular movement, causing an increased surge in traffic, especially for motorists. The traffic build-up is mainly on the road by the Mumbai Naka police station.Motorists have to drive around the Mumbai Naka traffic island for commuting through the area. Moreover, the unveiling of the statues of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule on the traffic island on Saturday attracted a throng of visitors to the junction resulting in large number of motorists stuck in traffic. Complaining about the traffic situation in area, a college-goer Rakesh Kahirnar said, "The police should open the road on an immediate basis. During the evening hours, there is a huge rush of motorists mainly opposite the Mumbai Naka bus stand." Rakesh travels through this junction daily to commute between Upnagar and Gangapur Road.Senior officials of the city traffic branch said that the newly constructed patch of road will be opened for traffic after the Navaratra festival. Traffic signals have been set up at the junction, which are currently on blinker mode.
Motorists coming towards the Mumbai Naka junction from Indiranagar have to drive around the traffic island and then move towards Dwarka or Bhabha Nagar. They have to join the vehicular traffic coming from the CBS side near the Mumbai Naka police station. The flow of traffic from two sides creates a bottle neck on the road by the Mumbai Naka police station. Traffic officials also said that they have written to the Nashik Municipal Corporation to relocate the city bus department's pick-up shade near the Mumbai Naka police station, as it would help resolve the traffic snarls in the area to some extent.
