NAVI MUMBAI: The civic body assured residents on Tuesday that despite a delayed monsoon, Morbe dam has enough water and no cuts are planned.
“There is enough water in Morbe dam. We are hopeful that rains will start soon and replenish the supply. Good rainfall for about 10 days will fill the dam up. We can wait for another fortnight,” a source at the water supply department said.
This is in stark contrast to the views of
Shiv Sena corporator Saroj Patil. She had visited the Morbe dam on Tuesday and said that, in her view, the water level was extremely low. She added that the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) should start taking measures to regulate water supply to avoid a crisis.
The civic body said that the current water level is at 72.48 m with a gross storage of 66.633 million cubic metre. The dam overflows at 88.00 m and at that level, its storage is 190 million cubic metre. “The level is more or less the same as that of June last year,” said executive engineer, Morbe dam, Jaswant Mistry.
