Navi Mumbai: Senior inspector of NRI coastal police held for Rs 3.5 lakh graft

Senior Inspector Satish Kadam of NRI Coastal Police Station has been arrested by the Mumbai Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakhs from a builder's son. Kadam had previously accepted Rs 14 lakhs to aid in securing bail for the complainant's jailed father and demanded further funds to avoid additional charges.

NAVI MUMBAI: The senior inspector of NRI coastal police station has been arrested by Mumbai unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting Rs 3.50 lakhs from a builder's son on Tuesday.
The arrested accused cop has been identified as Satish Kadam (55), who had allegedly accepted Rs 14 lakhs in two installments from the complainant Ajay Kumbhar in Sept for favouring his father Mahesh Kumbhar, who is lodged in Taloja jail in the incident of 4-storeyed building collapse at Shahbaz village, Belapur in July, by helping him in getting bail.

Thereafter, a cheating case was registered against the complainant's father at NRI coastal police station on Oct 2. Hence, inspector Kadam demanded Rs 5 lakhs for not arresting him.
Eventually, Kadam was caught red-handed in the trap laid by ACB, Mumbai unit, while accepting a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakhs from the complainant whom Kadam had called near his Ulwe residence on Tuesday around 10 am.
