Ghaziabad: A total of three people died while 10 others were injured in three separate accidents across the city on Monday.
The first accident occurred around 6am. A 42-year-old man was killed and seven others were injured when their car collided with a road divider in the Wave City area. Police were informed and the group of nine were brought to the hospital, where Anand Purohit, a resident of Noida, was declared dead on arrival.
Purohit was travelling along with six of his family members, including a two-year-old girl, and their driver. The family had been returning to Noida from Almora in Uttarakhand when the accident took place.
The other passengers said that their travel had been delayed due to diversions and they had asked their driver to take a rest stop at Gajraula, but the driver had insisted on continuing. They claimed that the driver may have dosed off at the wheel when they reached the highway in Dasna.
Purohit's brother Naveen approached cops to file a police complaint. ACP (Wave City) Priyashri Pal said that an investigation is being conducted in the matter.
Not long after, another crash took place at the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in the Masuri area, where a WagonR car going from Delhi to Meerut collided with a traveller bus.
Shantilal Jain (80), a passenger in the car, was killed in the crash while his daughter-in-law Manju Jain (56), granddaughter Poorvi (21), and driver Raja Hasan were seriously injured.
According to police, the driver left the bus and fled the spot, and the injured family members were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. The damaged vehicles have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
In the third incident, which took place around noon, a 36-year-old woman was killed when a tanker truck struck her down as she was crossing the road at Mohan Nagar intersection in Sahibabad. Piplani, who worked as a senior scientific officer in the Forensic Department in Delhi, was on her way to Max hospital in Vaishali where her father was receiving eye treatment at the time.
The truck's driver was taken into custody and the truck has been seized, police said, adding that further legal proceedings are underway.
