Noida opens bhangel elevated stretch for trial use

The Noida authority opened the newly constructed Bhangel elevated road to the public on Tuesday for trial movement, allowing commuters to finally use the long-pending route. The 4.5km six-lane flyover, completed at a cost of over ₹600 crore, had been waiting for a formal inauguration for weeks. Officials said the sudden opening was meant to reduce inconvenience to daily travellers. The structure had remained unused despite being ready, prompting public frustration. With the trial now underway, teams will monitor traffic flow and user response. The authority said the trial phase will guide final adjustments before an official launch. New stretch parallel to busy DSC road

The elevated road runs along the length of the high-traffic DSC corridor, linking Aghapur petrol pump with the Noida special economic zone. This parallel route is expected to help distribute traffic more evenly across the region. Officials said the new stretch will provide a smoother alternative for those heading toward industrial hubs. The alignment also offers relief to regular commuters who face peak-hour bottlenecks on the existing road. With a wider and elevated design, it ensures a more predictable travel experience. The corridor strengthens connectivity between major commercial and residential areas. (Picture credit: Yogesh Kumar)

Benefit for residents across several sectors

The new flyover is expected to ease travel for people living in Noida sectors 40, 41, 47, 48, 82, 88, 101, 106 and neighbouring village clusters. Daily commuters to NSEZ, Surajpur and Dadri are likely to see shorter travel times. Residents say the route will divert a significant portion of the traffic that crowds internal roads. Villages such as Sadarpur, Aghapur and Barolla also stand to gain faster connectivity. Local shopkeepers expect smoother movement during peak business hours. The stretch is seen as a long-delayed upgrade to the area’s transport network. (Picture credit: Yogesh Kumar)

Farmers’ group pressure triggers action

Earlier in the day, members of a farmers’ organisation had announced that they would open the elevated road themselves, claiming authorities were delaying it without reason. They argued that the flyover was complete and should not remain shut for a ceremonial event. Their announcement added urgency and pushed officials to take immediate action. The group expressed that residents had suffered enough during the lengthy construction period. They said they were prepared to remove barricades if the authority didn’t act. The decision to open the road hours later eased growing tension over the issue. (Picture credit: Yogesh Kumar)

Decade-long delay before completion

The project has had a long journey, first proposed more than ten years ago and delayed multiple times due to funding and administrative issues. Work finally began in 2020, but the flyover missed its original deadline of 2022. Officials cited financial shortages, technical challenges and land-related complications as major obstacles. The structure was eventually completed only in 2025 after several interruptions. Authorities said revisions in design also contributed to the extended timeline. The delay left locals frustrated as disruptions continued for years. (Picture credit: Yogesh Kumar)

Alignment revised due to obstructing buildings

Earlier this year, engineers discovered that two unauthorized buildings stood in the way of the planned alignment of the elevated stretch. Instead of demolishing the structures, the authority altered the design and reduced the width slightly. This adjustment helped avoid legal hurdles and allowed construction to continue smoothly. The redesign required fresh approvals and technical recalculations. Despite these last-minute changes, officials ensured that the road maintained safe traffic capacity. The modifications, however, added more time to the project’s delivery. (Picture credit: Yogesh Kumar)

Smooth ride experience on newly opened stretch

Commuters who used the elevated road on the first day said the drive felt noticeably smoother compared to the congested DSC route. The wider lanes and uninterrupted flow provided a quicker passage during peak hours. Many residents appreciated the improved visibility and cleaner roadway surface. The elevation also offered a clearer route free from regular bottlenecks below. Officials said the positive feedback will help them fine-tune the final rollout. Travellers expressed hope that the new stretch will ease daily travel once fully operational. (Picture credit: Yogesh Kumar)

Traffic officials assess safety needs after opening

Following the trial opening, traffic teams began assessing safety requirements along the elevated stretch to ensure smooth movement. Officials noted that additional signage, lane markings and reflective boards may be needed at key points. They said the sudden opening meant some commuters were still unfamiliar with the entry and exit lanes. The assessment will help identify potential blind spots and congestion-prone patches. Authorities aim to make the stretch safer before the formal inauguration. Teams will continue to evaluate conditions during peak hours. (Picture credit: Yogesh Kumar)
