Patna: The Bihar State Biodiversity Board organised a state-level function at Sanjay Sabhagar in Aranya Bhawan on Friday to mark International Biological Diversity Day.
Environment, forest and climate change minister Ram Chandra Prasad attended the event as the chief guest, while the department’s additional chief secretary Anand Kishor was the special guest. Bihar State Biodiversity Board chairman Bharat Jyoti welcomed the guests.
During the programme, the board released a science booklet on the conservation of wild animals living outside forests as part of its public awareness initiative. A documentary film on livestock biodiversity was also released and screened on the occasion.
Prasad distributed prizes to winners of painting, photography and quiz competitions organised at Patna Zoo on May 18 in the run-up to the event. Addressing the gathering, the minister congratulated the winning students and appreciated the support of their parents. He emphasised that active community participation is essential for effective biodiversity conservation.
Speaking on the occasion, Kishor highlighted the importance of biodiversity and outlined the department’s responsibilities in maintaining ecological balance. He stressed the need for committed and focused efforts by all stakeholders to conserve regional ecosystems.
Senior officials, including principal chief conservator of forests Arvinder Singh and additional principal chief conservator of forests Surendra Singh, among others, attended the programme.
