Child drowns, another goes missing at Ganga ghat in Buxar
Buxar: One of the three children, who had gone to bathe in the Ganga, drowned at Pulia Ghat near Ahirauli village under the Town police station in Buxar district on Friday. While locals rescued two children, one of them later died during treatment, and another remained missing.
According to police, the incident occurred when Manoj Singh, a resident of Ahirauli village, had gone to the ghat to perform Shraddh rituals for his late father. During the ceremony, his seven-year-old son, Mukul Singh, along with 13-year-old Sanjeev Singh, son of his brother-in-law Chhotu Singh, and another relative entered the river to bathe. The children slipped into deep water and began drowning.
Locals immediately jumped into the river and rescued Sanjeev Singh and another child. However, Sanjeev died during treatment. Search operations for Mukul Singh were underway till the filing of this report.
The incident triggered anger among local residents, who alleged delay and negligence in launching rescue operations. They claimed that timely action by the administration could have prevented the tragedy.
Town SHO Manoj Kumar said, “Police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. Search efforts are underway to trace the missing child, and further investigation is being carried out.”
