Govt orders statewide audit of trauma centres, tightens referral system
Patna: The State Health Society has ordered a statewide gap assessment of trauma centres and initiated steps to streamline referrals, besides strengthening ambulance coordination with trauma centres. The assessment will evaluate each facility’s current emergency and trauma care capabilities against established clinical and structural benchmarks to identify operational and resource gaps and improve patient survival.
A one-day orientation workshop on strengthening road safety and emergency services was held at Bapu Tower auditorium under the joint aegis of the State Health Society and the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority.
Participants included administrative officer (State Health Society) Rajesh Kumar; state programme officer (Health System Strengthening and Quality Assurance Programme-cum nodal road safety) Dr Abhishek Kumar Sinha; ADGP (traffic) Mohammad Ali Ansari; public health expert Himanshu Bhushan; director (public health), Bihar Vidyapeeth, Ajit Kumar Singh; along with regional programme managers, district urban health consultants, district quality assurance consultants and partner institutions.
Rajesh Kumar said the department is committed to strengthening trauma centres and cited directions from the health minister to ensure quality operations. He asked officials concerned to inspect trauma centres within 15 days and submit reports, stressed judicious referrals in accident cases, and said mapping of private ambulances across Bihar will be undertaken.
Dr Sinha said the workshop focused on strengthening emergency services to save lives in road accidents.
Ansari called for greater grassroots awareness to prevent accidents and emphasised faster compensation. He also said details of trauma centres should be shared with district DSPs and SPs.
Dr Bhushan stressed monitoring ambulance response time at the district level and recommended training MBBS doctors to address manpower gaps. The Bhavya team briefed participants on reporting emergency and referral cases on the platform, and NQAS-certified institutions were felicitated.
