PATNA: Patna Training College, one of the oldest institutions of teachers' training in eastern region, has decided to hold its centenary celebrations on a grand scale on March 16 and 17. Patna Training College was established in 1908 under Lord Curzon's New Education Policy, 1904, with J P Blair as its founder principal. A A Kazmi was appointed its first Indian principal on August 15, 1947. Initially, the college, functioning under the administrative control of Calcutta University, was shifted to Patna University in 1917. It was the first institution in the country to introduce one-year postgraduate course in education (MEd) in 1935. It is interesting to note that Patna Training College and Women's Training College are the only teachers' training colleges under university system in the states of Bihar and Jharkhand.
