Patna: A day after the CBSE Class XII results were declared, Patna University (PU) on Thursday invited online applications for admission to undergraduate courses in both regular and self-financed modes for the 2026-27 academic session.
PU registrar Shalini said the admission portal would open on Friday and remain active till May 30. For the first time, the university will use the Samarth portal for online applications and the entire admission process.
Students’ welfare dean Rajneesh Kumar said admissions to regular four-year undergraduate programmes would be conducted under the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 recommendations. No entrance test will be held for conventional degree courses and admissions will be based on marks obtained in Class XII examinations conducted by Bihar School Examination Board, Central Board of Secondary Education and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.
Rajneesh said marks obtained under all boards would be treated equally and faculty-wise merit lists would be prepared on the basis of marks and institutional preference opted by students.
Candidates seeking admission to honours courses in science can opt for Patna Science College, B N College and Magadh Mahila College. For humanities and social sciences, students may choose Patna College, B N College and Magadh Mahila College, while Vanijya Mahavidyalaya remains the only option for commerce under conventional courses.
PU has a total of 4,531 sanctioned seats in undergraduate programmes under regular and self-financed modes.
The dean said admissions to some professional and self-financed courses would be conducted through entrance tests. The Bachelor of Fine Arts entrance test will be held on June 12, while tests for LLB, integrated LLB, BBA, BCA and Bachelor of Library Science courses will be conducted on June 13.
