APJ Abdul Kalam appeared to be ruling the hearts and minds of state's book lovers who virtually made a beeline to buy a copy of his autobiography, Wings of Fire.
"More than 900 copies of Kalam's autobiography have been sold," said Vinay Kumar Singh of publishers Orient Blackswan.
Its Hindi version 'Agni Ki Udaan' also sold like hot cakes. "It's not in stock now," said a man manning the stall of publishers Prabhat Prakashan.
English readers showed strong interest in 'India & the Global Financial Crisis', 'History of Mediaeval India' and 'Story Teller', among other books. "We also sold a large number of `The Imo Compendium', a maths book," the Orient Blackswan staffer told TOI.
`Makers of Modern India' by Ramachandra Guha, 'Shobhaa at Sixty' by Shobhaa De and
Ruskin Bond books are also attracting English readers, K K Agrawal at Penguin stall said. "We sold 2,500 and odd copies of 'Geeta'," Chandan Kumar Kunwar at Geeta Press stall said. Osho's books were also selling like hot cakes.
In Hindi, `Jeet Apki', 'Vikasit Bihar Ki Khoj', `Lajja', Do Aurato Ke Patra' and the Hindi version of Chetan Bhagat's 'Five Point Someone' and 'One Night @ Call Centre' had many buyers.
As usual, several cultural events were organised at the fair venue on Monday. In 'Dexter Quiz Final', Rahul Kumar (Std VII) was adjudged the winner while Mahoz Alam (Std VIII), Deep Rani (Std IX), Abhishek Raj (Std IX), Sudhanshu Ranjan (Std X) and Chandan Kumar (Std VIII) were runners-up __ in that order.
A story-writing competition in English, a seminar on career choices, a street corner play and a quiz competition were also organised. So were a programme on poetry `Unka Kavya, Meri Vaani', a discussion `Parisamvad' and a 'Kavi Sammelan'. At 'Bookworm', book lovers spoke about their love for books.
