PATNA: State social welfare minister
Madan Sahni on Monday asserted that there was need to inculcate attitude in people so that they behave properly towards women. He said everyone needs to think about the way women rights can be enforced strongly and they can stand on their own feet.
This was enunciated by the social welfare minister at a workshop titled "Multidimensional Approach to Development of
Girl Child" organised by Women and Child Development Organization (WDC), Patna and supported by Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) and CARE India (Patna).
The minister cited improvements made by the state government towards alleviating the condition of girls and women. "The Cycle Yojana dramatically ameliorated their state and is still relevant. Under Civil Seva Protsahan Rashi Yojna, the state government gives incentives to those girls who qualify for UPSC and BPSC examination. In 2021, social welfare department gave incentive to 22 girl students, out of which five were finally selected in 2021 UPSC exam," Sahni said.
Harjot Kaur Bumrah, chairman-cum-managing director, WDC remarked that the condition of women in
Bihar has changed quite a lot.
“Large numbers of young women are progressing in every field due to reservation being provided by the chief minister in different services. The corporation is working in association with Jeevika in order to reduce domestic violence," Bumrah said.
In the first technical session, Professor Anita Raj stressed that girls’ education was helping them to have a better marriage, husband and be better mothers.
