Dandekar remembered
PUNE: The Bhandarkar Oriental ResearchInstitute on Monday celebrated the 95th birth anniversary of its formersecretary and noted scholar, the late Dr R.N. Dandekar. Thescholar’s wife, Indumati, donated a rare collection of some 5,000 books onoriental research to the institute on the occasion. Former institute librarianand Dandekar’s biographer, Dr V.L. Manjul, sa id the collectionincorporates six volumes of vedic bibliography by Dandekar, original vedicmanuscripts and their translations, a collection of 400 research articles byDandekar and international magazines to which Dandekar contributed.“A special room will be created in the institute library forDandekar’s works,� Manjul said. Dr S. N. Pathan, director, statehigher education, who was present on the occasion, expressed interest in sortingout the financial problems faced by the institute. Oriental scholarS.D. Joshi released Dandekar’s autobiography on the occasion. Artist B.N.Paranjpe donated his large portrait of Dandekar to the institute.
