The city will host the Indian multilingual drama, dance, music festival and contest organised by the Akhil Bhartiya Sanskrutik Sangh in association with the Unesco from May 21 on World Culture Day.

PUNE: The city will host the Indian multilingual drama, dance, music festival and contest organised by the Akhil Bhartiya Sanskrutik Sangh in association with the Unesco from May 21 on the occasion of World Culture Day.
The festival is scheduled to be held for a week and will draw to a close on June 1, which is the World Artists' Day.
Around 5,500 artists from 18 states will participate in around 16,000 programmes showcasing art forms like drama, mono-act, regional and tribal folk dances and various dance forms.

The music category will hold competitions in Hindustani classical, light, patriotic and vocal music as well as in different instrumental forms.
The contests will be judged by well known artists from all over the nation including noted Kathak dancer Mousumi Sen, folk dancer Panchali Sen, Ajay Mohanty disciple of noted Odissi dancer Kelucharan Mohapatra and many others. Rare dance forms like the Satriya Nritya from Assam and traditional dances from Arunachal Pradesh will be performed.
A team from the Unesco will be conducting a survey on various Indian art forms during the festival, a detailed report of which will be published on their website. Last year, the festival got a mention as the largest festival/contest' in India in the Limca Book of Records.
The festival will be inaugurated on May 21 at the Tilak Smarak Mandir at 9.30 am in the presence of city police commissioner Satyapal Singh. The valedictory function will take place at the Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch on June 1, to be attended by noted actor Vikram Gokhale and director of Unesco Warren Mellor.
