Pune: The city unit of the NCP (SP) on Monday conducted an agitation to condemn the recent hike in prices of petrol and diesel. The agitators took out a bullock cart rally and tonga morcha at the PMC headquarters to protest against the hike, demanding an urgent rollback.
Protesters held the BJP-led govt responsible for failing to handle the situation that is directly affecting the common people.
Shrikant Patil, head of the NCP (SP) city unit, warned that the agitation would be intensified in coming days if govt fails to take corrective measures. He said, “People are already suffering a lot because of inflation. Govt’s decision to increase fuel prices is going to directly impact their overall monthly budget. Transportation is going to cost more, and prices of daily use items have already started skyrocketing. The situation will push inflation up further.”
Agitators staged slogans against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that Central govt has failed to handle the country’s finances well. The NCP (SP) leader in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Sopan Kaka Chavan, said, “BJP gave false promises to people to just get their support during the elections. The party has never delivered on its the promises. Things will only get worse if govt fails to take decisions in favour of the public.”
