PUNE: Several prominent Congress leaders are scheduled to attend election rallies in the city in support of party Lok Sabha candidate Suresh Kalmadi. They include former finance minister Manmohan Singh, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kapil Sibbal, Kiran Chaudhari and Parvez Ashmi.
Announcing this at a press conference on Monday night, city Congress chief Mohan Joshi expressed confidence that the presence of these leaders will give a further fillip to Kalmadi’s campaign Back in action after a recent surgery, NCP chief Sharad Pawar will also campaign for Kalmadi.
He will address three public meetings in Pune on April 17, 23 and 24, Joshi said. According to party sources, the Priyanka Gandhi road show is also likely visit Pune city.
Interestingly, former chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who has been supporting the anti-Kalmadi faction led by Ulhas Pawar and Balasaheb Shivarkar, will also address Kalmadi’s campaign rallies Pune. "The time-table for meetings to be addressed by Deshmukh, Govindrao Adik and Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil will be finalised soon," Joshi said.
Meanwhile, Kalmadi supporters have released a set three audio-cassettes, featuring Kalmadi’s speeches and showcasing his contribution to the city, besides specially remixed songs, criticising the BJP-led government.
