Mining mafia under scanner; 14 vehicles, machines seized
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh administration has intensified its campaign against illegal mining of minor minerals, with two special mineral flying squad teams conducting surprise raids at 15 suspected locations in Korba district.
Acting on directives from Korba Collector Kunal Dudawat, the squads inspected sites in Sitamani, Kapatmuda, Surakchhar, Naraibodh, Rainki, Kudurmal, Barampur, Bankimongra, Sumedha, Kumgari, Ghanakchhar, Katghora, Kachhar, Darri, and Dhawaipur.
Officials reported violations related to illegal excavation and transportation and seized 14 vehicles and machines: one chain mountain track excavator (Poclain), nine tractors, two hiwas, and two tippers.
All seized vehicles have been handed over to local police stations and outposts for protective custody and further action. Legal proceedings are being processed through Kusmunda, Hardibazar, Darri, and Bankimongra police stations, along with the Urga mineral check-post.
The mineral department said cases are being registered against the accused and vehicle owners under the Chhattisgarh Minor Mineral Rules and other applicable legal provisions. Authorities said the drive aims to curb illegal mining and land mafia activity, conserve natural resources, prevent environmental damage, and stop revenue and royalty losses.
Officials warned that the special enforcement drive against illegal excavation, transportation, and storage will continue across the district and that violators will face strict legal action.
