Rajkot: The Mendarda police in Junagadh district cracked the sensational
robbery of cash and jewellery worth Rs 82 lakh from two brothers who were thrashed and confined in their house on Feb 1.
The police arrested Deepak Jogiya (29), the former employee in the brothers’ jewellery shop and his accomplices Dilip Vaghela (35) and Vimal Barot (29). Vaghela and Barot were unemployed and in debt.
They were planning to start a new business with Jogiya who knew that the brothers Jitendra Soni and Tulidas kept a huge stock of jewellery in their house in Rajesar village.
On Feb 1, Jogiya went to their house and they even had a cup of team. As per their plan, Barot and Vaghela barged in and the three thrashed the brothers, and confined them in a room at gunpoint. They took away cash and jewellery and fled after tying up the brothers. Police said they had purchased a toy gun to scare the brothers.
Police recovered gold biscuits worth Rs 58 lakh, silver and bullion worth Rs 15 lakh and cash worth Rs seven lakh which they had hidden in Gir forest on the outskirts of Junagadh.
Using CCTV footage and human sources, the police identified them. However, the accused frequently changed locations to evade arrest.
Meanwhile, police got specific information that they were hiding near a temple on the banks of Bhadar River in Ganod village of Upleta taluka, and nabbed them.
