GARHWA: The district administration launched a vehicle check-up in the sub-divisions of Garhwa, Ranka and Nagar Untari on Thursday to crack a whip on overloaded vehicles and riders without helmets that have led to a sharp rise in road mishaps. Five people lost their lives in an accident on Thursday at Bahiyar Khurd on NH-75.
"Reckless driving and overloading led to the mishap on Thursday," said DC Rajendra Pratap Sinha.

Sinha has ordered the police to see to the strict adherence to the Motor Vehicles Act. District transport officer (DTO) Sunil Khakha and SDM A Muthu Kumar will monitor the drive.
Sinha said, "Overloading in commercial vehicles will not be tolerated. Any such commercial vehicle will be seized and stern action will be taken against the vehicle's driver and owner." Bikers without driving license and helmet too will invite rigid action.
SDPO Shrawan Kumar said people who flout safety norms and endanger passengers' lives to make quick money would be punished. "We have found many commercial vehicles violating norms by exceeding their passenger capacities. Such vehicles would be seized and released only after fines are slapped," said Kumar.s
